Damon is one of thousands of delivery partners who have helped reduce hunger through Community Delivery, a program in which Amazon pays delivery drivers in select locations to bring meals from local nonprofits to those most in need. Damon and fellow drivers have helped deliver more than 30 million meals since the program began in 2020.

Throughout his life, Damon has given back to his community — through mentoring, tutoring, and now through Community Delivery.

“I like to use my time to serve my community,” Damon said. “It warms my heart.”

Community Delivery lets Damon do just that. Amazon pays him for these deliveries just like any other block, and the nonprofit and people receiving the deliveries get the service free of charge.

“The people are always grateful,” Damon said. “Sometimes families are outside when I arrive, so I get to meet them. That’s always a joy. They always want to come and help me with the food, especially the kids.”

Damon delivers with Amazon Flex two to four times a week, doing a mix of Whole Foods Market and Community Delivery blocks.

“I like community deliveries best, because I get a chance to help folks who might be less fortunate,” Damon said.

Damon’s deliveries have helped countless people in his community. They’ve also helped him earn and save for visits from his 20 grandkids.

“I have eight grandkids here in Michigan, seven in Ohio, four in Georgia, and one in Mississippi,” Damon said. “My wife and I enjoy taking them shopping when they come to visit, and Amazon Flex definitely supports those adventures.”

He hopes his story will help motivate others to look for local Community Delivery opportunities.

“I strongly encourage people to do at least one Community Delivery,” Damon said. “You never know how you’re going to impact someone.”

We’re inspired by Damon’s commitment to his community and grateful to all those who help reduce hunger. To learn more about Community Delivery, visit our dedicated Community Delivery blog post.
